Johann Rudolf Byss

Johann Rudolf Byss ( born May 11, 1660 in Chur, † December 11, 1738 in Würzburg) was a Swiss painter. Byss made ​​Dutch -influenced paintings and frescoes in the Italian Baroque.

Life

His craft, he first learned from his father Frans Joseph Byss and perfected his skills while traveling through Italy, Germany and England before he first settled around 1689 in Prague that he is leaving again around 1712. Later, he was commissioned by Emperor Leopold I with the creation of ceiling and wall paintings and images for the Hofburg in Vienna. On behalf of the Elector Lothar Franz von Schönborn he led from 1712 or 1715, first working in the Castle of Gaibach and was then charged with the supervision of the electoral picture gallery in white stone castle in Pommersfelden. He gave a description of the 1719 collection of paintings in Bamberg out, but these had different errors.
