Johann Stumpf (engineer)

John Stumpf ( born April 6, 1862 in Mülheim am Rhein, † November 18, 1936 in Berlin) was a German engineer and steam engine builder.

Life and work

From 1896 to 1930 he was professor of mechanical engineering force at the Technical College in Berlin -Charlottenburg.

The mechanical engineer stump helped the uniflow steam engine to break through - especially in Germany. From about 1908, the efficient DC technology the then standard AC principle increasingly superseded. Application found this machine especially in shipbuilding and as a traction engine.

Stump was in 1926 a full member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences since January 26.

In Cologne - Buchheim a street is named after him.
