Johann von Klenau

Johann Graf von Klenau, Baron von Janowitz as a member of the old Bohemian family Klenovský z Klenové or Klenowsky of Klenowa ( born April 13, 1758 in Prague, Bohemia; † October 6, 1819 in Brno, Moravia ) was an Austrian general.

Life

Klenau joined in 1775 as a lieutenant in an infantry regiment. It was in 1778 captain in the Chevaux - legers ( light horsemen ), 1788 Major, in 1795 because of his bravery in the French war ( especially on July 27, 1794 in front of Liège and September 24, 1795 at glove home near Heidelberg ) Colonel and 1797 Major General.

After he excelled particularly in 1799 in Italy by his general talent, he was already in 1800 field marshal lieutenant. During the Napoleonic Wars he struck on December 18, Pierre -François -Charles Augereau at running and was taken prisoner in 1805 in Ulm 1809, he led in the Battle of Aspern the vanguard of the 4th and 5th column and at the Battle of Wagram in place Hillers the 6th Army Corps with distinction.

Then he fought in 1813 in the Battle of Leipzig, where he bravely defended the Kolmberg at Wachau on October 16. He took on 11 November, the city of Dresden by capitulation and then went with his corps to Italy. 1815 finally he was Commanding General in Brno.

In 1909 ( 22nd District ) was named after him in the Klenaugasse Vienna Danube city.
