Johannes de Garlandia (music theorist)

Jean de Garlande (13th century ) was a Parisian musician, author of several treatises on music theory and polyphony.

It is possible that there are in fact two different people at Jean Garlande, a Jean de Garlande, who wrote in 1240 the work De plana musica and De mensurabili musica and probably non-teaching with the same time in Paris Johannes de Garlandia is identifiable, and another, who wrote in 1300 a Introduction à la musique. The latter also Introduction was attributed, but was actually an adaptation of a paper by Philippe de Vitry.
