Johannes Nicolaus Brønsted

Johannes Nicolaus Brønsted ( born February 22, 1879 in Varde, Jutland, † December 17, 1947 in Copenhagen) was a Danish chemist.

Brønsted studied chemistry at the University of Copenhagen and in 1908 received his doctorate in the same year he received a professorship in physical and inorganic chemistry. Technically he specialized in thermodynamics. Derives its today Brønsted - Lowry called proton theory of acids and bases from the year 1923. Brønsted and Thomas Lowry had come independently to the same definition.
