John Bennett (athlete)

John Bennett ( John Dale Bennett, born November 14, 1930 in Grand Forks ) is a former American long jumper.

1953 and 1954 he was starting for the Marquette University NCAA champion, 1954 U.S. champion also.

In 1955 he won with his personal best of 8.01 meters silver medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City with two centimeters behind his compatriot Rosslyn Range.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he won with 7.68 m also silver behind compatriot Greg Bell ( 7.83 m) and ahead of the Finn Jorma Valkama (7.48 m).
