John Burton (politician)

John Stratford Burton ( born November 27, 1927 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian politician of the New Democratic Party ( NDP) and economist.

Career

Burton was the first Member of Parliament for the constituency of Regina East in the House of Commons on September 9, 1968 to September 1, 1972. His successor was Jim Balfour. First member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF ), he was later to its successor the NDP. Burton was also the CCF candidate in Melville in the elections in 1957 and 1958, and NDP candidate in Melville 1962 in Regina City 1965 East Regina Wascana in 1972 and in 1997 but was defeated in these elections.
