John Callcott Horsley

John Callcott Horsley ( born January 29, 1817 in Brompton, London today, † October 18, 1903 in London ) was an English genre, history and portrait painter and etcher.

Horsley was born as the son of the English musician William Horsley. He attended Sass 's Academy and joined in 1831 the Royal Academy of Arts, where he won a gold medal in the antiques trade. Since 1837 he -fed the institution with his pictures. After he tried some time in the history painting, he turned increasingly to humorous and sentimental anecdotes painting. In 1864 he was admitted as a member (RA ) in the Royal Academy of Arts. Horsley was also the father of renowned British physiologist and neurologist Victor Horsley.
