John Cirby Sturtevant

John Cirby Sturtevant ( born February 20, 1835 in Spring, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, † 20 December in Conneautville, Pennsylvania, 1912 ) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Sturtevant attended the common schools and at first then worked as a teacher and farmer. In the years 1861, 1862 and 1864 he was employed by the management of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. Between 1865 and 1890 he participated in all regional party days of the Republicans for Pennsylvania as a delegate. In the years 1865 and 1866 he was a deputy in the State Parliament. In 1867 he moved to Conneautville, where he worked until 1873 in the hardware store. He then worked until 1888 in the craft. Then he went into the banking industry and there as President of the First National Bank of Conneautville on.

In the congressional elections of 1896 Sturtevant was the 26th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Matthew Griswold on March 4, 1897. Since he resigned in 1898 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1899. This was marked by the events of the Spanish - American War of 1898.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Sturtevant was again active in the banking industry. He died on 20 December 1912 in Conneautville, where he was also buried.
