John D'Amico

John David D' Amico ( born September 21, 1937 in Toronto, Ontario, † 29 May 2005 ) was a Canadian ice hockey linesman in the National Hockey League ( NHL) and later supervisor of officials. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.

The Toronto-born D' Amico began his career in the NHL on October 12, 1964 at the age of 28 years as a referee. After only 19 games, he has been used as a linesman, the ice hockey play a crucial role.

Overall, D' Amico was involved until his retirement in 1987 at 1,689 regular competitive games of the Canadian NHL, plus 247 inserts in the Play Offs Stanley Cup.

The health problems D' Amico were initiated by a heart attack in September 2002 and it had to give him a bypass be placed. It then also abnormal blood levels were observed, which led to the formation of gallstones. In addition, soon leukemia and bone cancer were diagnosed. Shortly before his death he attracted public attention when he remarked on the poor quality of the Canadian health care system.

Until the very end, he worked as a Supervisor ( referee Wart, overseer of all officials of a hockey game) in the NHL.

John David D' Amico died on 29 May 2005 and was survived by his wife Dorothy, a daughter Tina and the three sons Angelo, Jeff, Anthony. Angelo D' Amico has also worked as a linesman in the NHL.
