John Eales

John Eales (* June 27, 1970 in Brisbane ) is an Australian former rugby union player who played in the second row. He was captain of the Australian national team and active for the club Queensland Reds.

Prior to his career as a rugby player, Eales was active in cricket. In addition, he completed a degree in psychology at the University of Queensland.

He completed 86 internationals for Australia, including 55 as captain. Only Will Carling and George Gregan come on more missions as a team leader. He played an important role in the two World Cup titles in 1991 and 1999, making it one next four compatriots and the South Africans Os du Randt to the only six players who have so far won two world titles. Eales has in the Super 14 ever achieved with 402 points, the most points of all the strikers in this competition.

After his playing career, Eales founded his own company called JohnEales5, which specializes in the field of sports marketing. At the World Championships 2007 he was one of the ambassadors of rugby. In 1999 he received the Medal of the Order of Australia. He was the John Eales Medal namesake, which is awarded at the end of one season to the best Australian player. Eales has written a book, " Learning From Legends", which deals with Australian legends from different sports.
