John Eastaugh

John Richard Gordon Eastaugh (* March 11, 1920, † 16 February 1990) was a clergyman of the Church of England. From 1973 until his death he was bishop of Hereford.

After studying at the University of Leeds in 1944 he was ordained. He began his ecclesiastical career as a vicar ( Curate ) on a church in the London Borough of Poplar and was then pastor (Vicar ) on two other London churches before he received episcopal consecration as Bishop of Hereford in 1973. He died 17 years later in execution of his office on 16 February 1990.

Membership in the House of Lords

Eastaugh was in his capacity as Bishop of Hereford from December 1978 to February 1990 as a clergyman Lord the House of Lords officially. His inaugural address was delivered 8 December 1981 on economic aid to the countries of the Eastern bloc, especially in the case of Poland. In Hansard word posts Eastaughs from the years 1981 to 1986 are documented. In November 1986, he enlisted in the House of Lords last to speak. His membership in the House of Lords did not end with retirement as bishop, but prematurely with his death in February 1990.
