John Finney

John Thornley Finney ( born 1932 ) is a retired bishop of the Church of England.

Ecclesiastical offices

He was the first chairman of the Decade of Evangelism, which was founded in 1988, launched at the Lambeth Conference, the General Assembly of all Anglican bishops to life. In Resolution No. 43 of the Conference Evangelism was designated as the main task, which is given to the Church. All provinces and dioceses of the worldwide Anglican Communion were called to put an emphasis on making Jesus Christ known to the people of the world. From 1993 to 1998, Finney Suffragan Bishop of Pontefract in West Yorkshire. After his retirement, he was an assistant bishop in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

Impetus for evangelism

He is the author of several books on the subject of evangelism and church renewal. So he gave the study " Finding faith today. How does it happen? " Out, which examines the circumstances which were conducive for it that people in the Church of England discovered the Christian faith as their life. Finney was one of the speakers at the inaugural meeting of the "Center mission in the region," the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD ) on 8 June 2010 at Volkenroda monastery in Thuringia. Even the Emmaus faith Course, published in Germany, among others from Greifswald Professor of Practical Theology Michael Herbst, found in the Evangelical Church in Germany growing popularity.
