John Gould Veitch

John Gould Veitch (* April 1839 in Exeter, † August 13 1870 in Combe Wood, Surrey ) was a British gardener, botanist and plant collector. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Veitch ".

He was great-grandson of Scotsman John Veitch (1752-1839), who founded the nursery dynasty Veitch and Sons. His father James Veitch junior (1815-1869) gave the London branch of the nursery, the company James Veitch & Sons, to his three sons John Gould, Harry James and Arthur. James Veitch junior died in 1869; a year then came John Gould Veitch tuberculosis.

From 1860, John Gould Veitch of the plant hunters for the nursery James Veitch & Sons. His collecting trips took him from 1860 to 1862 in Japan, China and the Philippines as well as from 1864 to 1866 to Australia. Soon after his return to England he married; from the marriage came two sons James Gould Jr. (1869-1914) and James Herbert forth.
