John Graham (bishop)

John Graham ( born February 23, 1794 in Claypath, Durham, † June 15 1865 in Chester ) was Bishop of Chester and caregivers of Charles Darwin during his studies at Cambridge.

Life and work

John Graham was, after an initial training in his hometown, at Christ's College of Cambridge University. There he put his degree as Bachelor of Arts in 1816 and 1819 as the Master of Arts from. In 1818 he became a deacon, and from 1830 to 1849 he was head of Christ's College. In 1834 and 1840 he served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. From 1843 he was also Rector of Willingham in Cambridgeshire.

On March 11, 1848 he was appointed Bishop of Chester.
