John Hill (botanist)

John Hill (c. 1716 probably in Peterborough, Northamptonshire, † November 21, 1775 in London ) was an English chemist, physician, botanist and writer. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Hill ".

Life and work

Hills first publication was a translation of Theophrastus' History of Stones ( 1746 ). Since then, he wrote tirelessly, his publications include more than 70 pieces. He was editor of the British Magazine (1746-1750) and wrote 1751-1753 under the pseudonym The Inspector a daily column for the newspaper London Advertiser and Literary Gazette, which Hill is regarded as the world's first newspaper columnist. In addition to scientific works, he also wrote novels and plays and worked extensively on the Supplement of Ephraim Chambers' Cyclopaedia with.
