John Hoge

John Hoge (* September 10, 1760 at Hogestown, Pennsylvania; † August 4, 1824 in Washington County, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. In the years 1804 and 1805 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Hoge was the older brother of Congressman William Hoge ( 1762-1814 ). After a good education, he served during the Revolutionary War as an ensign in a regiment of Pennsylvania. In 1782, he moved with his brother in the area of Pennsylvania, where later the city of Washington was created. This city was founded by the Hoge brothers. Later, he embarked on a political career. In 1790 he was a delegate in part on a constitutional convention of his state; 1790 to 1795 he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the end of the 1790s by Thomas Jefferson founded the Democratic-Republican Party.

Following the resignation of his brother as congressman Hoge was in the due election as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1804. Until March 3, 1805 he was able to end the current parliamentary term in Congress. About John Hoge life after his resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives nothing is handed down. He died on 4 August 1824 the estate Meadowlands in Washington County.
