John Hughes (Irish musician)

John Hughes (Irish Seán Ó hAodha ) (born 23 June 1950) is an Irish musician and talent manager, who is best known for his work with The Corrs.

Career

Early career

Hughes began his career in the 1960s as a singer and guitarist of the band Ned Spoon from Dublin. After this had closed down in 1972, he formed with his brother Willie the hippie duo Highway and later in the 1980s, the New Wave band Minor detail. This was the first Irish band, which completed a record deal with an American label, but they produced only one album. It was founded by Bill Whelan, the music producer of Riverdance - The Show produced.

Discovery of The Corrs

In 1991, he founded the band Hughes version with Jim Corr on keyboards. In addition, currently working as a musical coordinator for the film The Commitments. Jim Corr decided to participate with his three sisters at the music - Casting for the film, which Hughes, however, knew nothing. The casting director Ros Hubbard, who had heard the Corr siblings, Hughes finally convinced her to manage the band, even though he had no experience in this field. To date, he is the manager of The Corrs.

Wild Ocean

After Hughes worked for the Corrs, he neglected his own music. In 1999, he decided, however, to re- write their own material and record it. The result was the album Wild Ocean, which was released under the label 14th Floor Records / Warner Records 2004. Supposedly, the title of the album of Andrea Corr has been proposed.

On this album, The Corrs, The Chieftains and the newcomer Tara Blaise also act with. Hughes then offered Tara Blaise, who had co-written some songs of Wild Ocean itself, to a recording contract with his label Spokes Records and wrote songs for her debut album Dancing On Tables Barefoot with.

The Mandela Suite

2009 Hughes published his EP The Mandela Suite. This work is a further development of Wild Ocean. It consists of a song cycle, which begins with Nelson Mandela, who recites his own tribute to the music.
