John I, Count of Rietberg

Count Johann I of Rietberg (* 1450, † 1516) was from 1472 to 1516 Count of Rietberg. He was born as the eldest son of Count Konrad V. and his wife Jacobe of Neuenahr. After his father's death in 1472 John I took over the affairs of the county.

In a Schnadegang on May 1, 1474 the citizens of Rietberg he drank a keg of beer with them. 1477 John promised the city council Rietberg and the local mayor, the restoration of ancient rights and customs. Furthermore, the right of Lippstadt city should also apply here.

Also in 1477 traveled Johanns brother Curt with the Johann Roden and his wife Lucke to Rome. The cost was brought by the pledge of Aldehofes on in Bokel.

On April 24, 1481 John I and his wife Margaret came under Abbot John V. Wineken the convent Marienfeld. On May 13, 1481 Johann donated there for the souls of his parents and siblings an altar. For payment, he handed the Horntemannsgut in the parish Gütersloh, but left the option of being able to buy it for 200 Rhenish guilders.

In the Rietberger chapel he also donated an altar.

Before 1475 he married Margarete to the lip. She gave him nine children:
