John I, Duke of Bavaria

Johann child ( * November 29, 1329, † December 21, 1340 in Landshut ) reigned after the death of his father Henry II 1339-1340 one year the Wittelsbach part Duchy of Lower Bavaria.

John was the only child of Duke Henry II of Lower Bavaria and Margaret of Bohemia, a daughter of King John the Blind. He was betrothed as a child in 1335 with Elizabeth, a daughter of the Polish king Casimir I.. These and further engagement with a daughter of Count Palatine Johann Rudolf II were released and on April 18, 1339 in Munich with Anna, the daughter of Ludwig of Bavaria, married. Connected to the marriage was a peace treaty between Henry of Lower Bavaria and Louis of Bavaria. When Duke Henry in September 1339, died Ludwig took over the guardianship of his son.

After the death of John at the age of eleven years, the Lower Bavarian part Duchy fell to Bavaria, which the part Duchy of Upper Bavaria already ruled and thus could unite Altbayern back to Louis. Johann the child was buried in the monastery Seligenthal.
