John II, Count of Gorizia

John II of Gorizia (c. 1433May 22, 1462 in Lienz) was the penultimate ruler of the family of Meinhardiner. Between the years 1454 and 1462 he was Count of Gorizia.

Life

John II was the eldest son of Count Heinrich VI. of Gorizia from his second marriage to Catherine of Gara, daughter of the Hungarian palatine Nicholas of Gara was born.

Between the years 1444 and 1454 John II was a hostage in Celje. in the latter year, shocked from the hostage, he joined the father's heir as Count of Gorizia. Subsequently, he failed with his Erbansprüchen in the county Ortenbourg. After looting derselbigen he had to finally give up sameness, and in reparation to cede 12 castles, including his residence in Lienz, Schloss Bruck. Count Johann II was married to Elisabeth von Cilli, the daughter of Count Ulrich of Cilli. This marriage sprang children.
