John II, Duke of Opava

John II of Opava (also John of Leobschutz, Johann " the Pious " of Leobschutz; . Czech Jan III Opavský, Jan also the Pious; * 1425, † 1485 ) was from 1445 / 47-1464 part - Duke of Opava and from 1445/47 until his death Duke of Leobschutz. From 1454 to 1464 he was a gentleman on Fulnek. He came from the Opava branch of the Bohemian Přemyslids.

Life

His parents were Duke Wenceslaus II of Opava and Leobschutz and Elizabeth of Krawarn.

After the death of his father 1445/47 came into Johann and his eponymous older brother Johann / Hanus the Duchy Leobschutz and one-third of the Duchy of Opava. After Johann / Hanus died in 1454, John II took over his titulary as Mr. Fulnek.

The other two thirds of Opava held her father Wilhelm and Ernst brothers. After Wilhelm in 1451 the hereditary claim to the Duchy of Münsterberg rendered his younger brother Ernest, he earned in return from this his third share of the Duchy of Opava. This included Wilhelm now two-thirds of Opava. After William but died a year later, Ernst sold in his capacity as guardian of the minor children of William their two-thirds share of the Opava Opole Duke Bolko V. After his death in 1460, the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad drew its share of Opava as ceased fief one. John II of Leobschutz, who was married to a Catherine NN, died about 1485 without issue. His nickname " the Pious " or " Pius " he should have attained by the fact that he was not remarried after the death of his wife. His Duchy Leobschutz drew King Matthias Corvinus as a ceased fief. Then he transferred it to his son John Corvinus.

With John II of Leobschutz went out the direct line přemyslidische Opava, Opava - Ratibor while the line still existed until 1521.
