John II of Beirut

John II of Beirut, also John of Ibelin, (* 1230, † 1264 ) was Lord of Beirut and a member of the noble family of Ibelin.

He was the son of Balian of Ibelin, Lord of Beirut, and his wife Eschiva of Montfaucon. After his death in 1247 he succeeded his father to the domination Beirut.

1260 he undertook together with the Knights Templar a plundering expedition into the Muslim lands of Galilee. In the vicinity of Tiberias, he came here in Muslim captivity and was released only on payment of a high ransom.

Around 1250 he married Alix of La Roche ( † after 1277 ), daughter of Guido I of La Roche, Duke of Athens. With her he had two daughters:

  • Eschiva (* around 1253, † 1312), Lady of Beirut ∞ Humphrey of Montfort
