John II of Werle

John II, Lord of Werle [- Güstrow ], called The Bald ( * after 1250; † August 27, 1337 ) was, from 1309 to 1316 co-regent to Werle and 1316-1337 to Mr. Werle - Güstrow.

He was the second son of John I and Sophie von Lindau - Ruppin.

He reigned from 1309 together with his brother Nicholas II on Werle. After his death in 1316 it was decided to divide and Johann took over control of the part of Werle - Güstrow and John III. , The son of Nicholas II, took over the rule of Werle - Goldberg. The Danish King Christopher II promised on May 4th, 1326 Johann along with the Prince of Mecklenburg Henry II the investiture with the rügischen possessions. However, in the War of Succession rügischen these claims could not be enforced. He was since the year 1311 with Mechthild († 1333/1344 ), the daughter of Henry I of Brunswick, married. Through several trials against Jews because of host desecration in his territory ( Gustrow, Krakow am See ), he got rid of his debts. Johann was buried in the Doberan Minster.
