John III Rizocopus

John Rizocopus was an East Roman Patrician and Exarch of Ravenna about 710

After the rebellion against the exarch Theophylact, there is evidence that in the early years of the second reign of Justinian II ( 705-711 ) was again no exarch in Italy. It was not until Pope Constantine I the Emperor at Constantinople Opel traveled ( October 710), he was received by Exarch John Rizocopus in Naples. After the Pope's onward journey Rizocopus John went over Rome, where he executed several dignitaries of the Pope, to Ravenna. Here he died, as the Liber Pontificalis reports, as punishment for his misdeeds a very ignominious death. A certain Georgius had sat down at the head of a rebellion and declared Ravenna independence of Constantinople Opel. The uprising, which other places of the Exarchate joined, was perhaps depressed only under the Emperor Philippikos Bardanes.
