John Lort Stokes

John Lort Stokes ( born August 1, 1811 in Scotch Well in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, † June 11, 1885 ) was a British naval officer.

Stokes took part in the famous voyage of the HMS Beagle from 1831 to 1836 and as Lieutenant of driving under the command of John Clements Wickham.

1846 Stokes was promoted to captain and commanded the steamer Acheron, the New Zealand explored for four years.

In 1863 he retired and was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral in. In 1871 he became vice - admiral, and admiral in 1877.
