John Madden (director)

John Madden ( born April 8, 1949 in Portsmouth) is a British theater and film director.

Career

After Madden had begun to stage at the theater in England, he went in 1975 in the United States. There he first designed radio plays for radio and soon began also to work on Broadway. After a term as a teacher of drama at Yale University, he led in the 1980s, back in England, Director for several television films for the BBC.

His movie breakthrough he experienced in 1997 with the film Mrs Brown. Judi Dench played as Queen Victoria of Great Britain the lead role. A year later he was awarded the contract for Shakespeare in Love director. The film became the most successful film of the year in 1999 and received seven Oscars. For Madden, however, it remained in the nomination for best director.

Madden turned in 2001 as a next film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, starring Nicolas Cage in the lead role. In mid-September 2005, his film was released in the U.S. The evidence - love between genius and madness with Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins in the lead roles.
