John Martin Fischer

John Martin Fischer ( born December 26, 1952) is an American philosopher.

Fischer studied at Stanford University and habilitated at Cornell University. Fischer teaches at the University of California, Riverside. In 2012, he was Vice President of the Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association. From August to September 2011 and in the second half of 2012, he worked in the research group for Biophilosophie at Münster University as a Fellow of the College 's research group at the invitation of Michael Quante (* 1962).

Fischer deals with issues of free will and its relation to responsibility. Here he developed the position of the "semi- compatibilism ", that, while the man does not have free will, but the concept of responsibility is consistent with a deterministic physical world. Other topics include the metaphysics of death and the meaning of life and issues of philosophy of religion.
