John McIntyre (Archbishop of Birmingham)

John McIntyre ( born January 1, 1855 in Birmingham, † November 21, 1935 ) was Archbishop of Birmingham.

Life

He attended Sedgley Park School, Wolverhampton, the English College, Douai, St. Bernard Seminary, Olton and the English College, Rome. After his ordination to the priesthood on May 22, 1880 he was in Colwich, Staffordshire, and then alternatively active in Oscott and Olton until 1912. Between 1898 and 1912 he was Vice - Rector of St Mary 's College, Oscott.

Pope Pius X appointed him on 24 June 1912 in Birmingham Bishop and Titular Bishop of Lamu. The Archbishop of Birmingham, Edward Ilsley, donated to him on July 30th of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Francis Edward Joseph Mostyn, Bishop of Menevia, and George Ambrose Burton, Bishop of Clifton. In the next year he was appointed rector of the English College in Rome, despite the protests of Archbishop Ilsley. On August 24, 1917 he was raised to the Titular Archbishop of Oxyrynchus.

After retirement Ilsleys to retirement, he was appointed on June 16, 1921 Archbishop of Birmingham and ceremoniously introduced in the cathedral of Birmingham on July 5 of the same year. From his office, he stepped back due to illness on 17 November 1928. Pope Pius XI. thereupon appointed him Titular Archbishop of Odessus.
