John Melton

John Melton ( * before 1609, † 1640) was an English merchant, writer and politician.

Life

John Melton was appointed by King Charles I to the Secretary of the Council of the North in 1635. In this role he was Keeper of the Great Seal of Northern England.

John Melton was married three times, the first time. Starring Elizabeth the widow of Ferdinando Heyborne, by whom he had four children Then with Catherine, a daughter of Alan Currance, with whom he had three sons and one daughter, his third wife was Margaret, widow of Samuel Aldersey.

In his death in 1640 he was elected Member of Parliament of Newcastle upon Tyne.
