John Mercer Reid

John Mercer Reid PC ( born February 8, 1937 in Fort Frances, Ontario ) is a former Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada.

Life

After schooling Reid graduated and earned after a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) and a Master of Arts ( MA) and a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D.). He then worked as a teacher.

His political career began in the general election on November 8, 1965 as he was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party in the constituency of Kenora - Rainy River for a member of the House of Commons. This he belonged until his election defeat in the general election on September 4, 1984 and he belonged 1968-1972 the Liberal Labour Party, before he then again a member of the Liberal Party was.

During his long parliamentary membership Reid was the first between September 1968 and September 1972 Chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on radio, film and support the arts. In December 1972 he was Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Privy Council and held this position until September 1975.

In October 1978 he became chairman of the Standing House of Commons Committee on procedures and organization and remained in this position until March 1979.
