John Morrison (chess player)

John Stuart Morrison ( born December 7, 1889 in Toronto, † March 1, 1975 ) was a Canadian chess player.

He won five times the Canada Cup (1910, 1913, 1922, 1924 and 1926) alone and won together with the player Maurice Fox in 1931. Tournament in New York in 1913, he finished 12th in the tournament of New York in 1918 and the 7th in the tournament from London 1922 14th Place. Morrison played on first board ( 5, -6, = 4) for Canada at the 8th Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires in 1939. In 2000, he was inducted into the Canadian Chess Hall of Fame.

1918 succeeded to defeat Dawid Janowski him in New York, in London in 1922, he defeated Max Euwe. After calculating the historical Elo John Morrison was in January 1920 on the 21st place in the world rankings.
