John Neal (footballer)

John Neal ( born April 3, 1932 in Durham ) is a former English footballer and football coach.

Career

Playing career

Neal began his career at Hull City as a defender. The Englishman joined the club in 1949. After six years in Hull, he moved for a year to Swindon Town. The highlight of his playing career was the commitment to Aston Villa of 1959 until 1962. According subsequent three years at Southend United, he finished his career in 1965.

Coaching career

After end of his career as a player, he became coach of FC Wrexham. With the Welsh, he won the Welsh Cup twice. After the successful years in Wales, he spent four years as Middlesbrough FC, which he left in 1981, the FC Chelsea after persistent disputes over its transfer policy and the Association. Neal finished his coaching career in 1986 because of recurring heart problems. He currently lives in Edinburgh.
