John R. Crawford

John Randolph Crawford (* August 4, 1915 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, † February 14, 1976 in New York) was a versatile American players and games expert. He won in the years 1950, 51 and 52 three times in a row, the Bermuda Bowl, the World Cup in Bridgetown.

In backgammon, John Crawford is known as the inventor of the Crawford rule, he also won some big tournaments such as 1965, the second International Backgammon Tournament in Lucaya in the Bahamas - these tournaments mark the beginning of modern backgammon. John Crawford's wife Carol won 1973 in Las Vegas Backgammon World Championship. Together with Oswald Jacoby wrote John Crawford The Backgammon Book.

John Crawford and Oswald Jacoby further developed a strategy for the canasta game, canasta the Great Challenge match against Theodore Lightner and Sam Fry won in 1950 and wrote the rules of the Samba Canasta.

In addition, John Crawford was one of the best gin rummy player.
