John Ravenscroft (composer)

John Ravenscroft (* 1650 in London, † 1708 ) was an English composer and violinist.

John Ravenscroft, who spent some time in Rome, described himself as a student Arcangelo Corelli, which is not considered as secure. In Rome in 1695 twelve trio sonatas as his Opus 1 were published. This was followed shortly after his death six other trio sonatas under the name Sonatas or champagne Airs (London, 1708). His compositions were similar to those of Corelli so much that nine of Ravenscroft sonatas op 1 erroneously 1740 with Le Cène, as Corelli, Op 7 went to press.
