Work

From 1934 he worked at the Hospital for Ruptured and Crippled, today Hospital for Special Surgery ( Surgical Hospital ) New York City, where he built a scoliosis clinic. At that time little was known about scoliosis and its cause and there was no effective treatment. Cobb experimented with various methods of treatment and concluded that the best method is the use of a plaster corsets in combination with spinal fusion. But he also realized that only about 10% of patients requiring such surgery with scoliosis. To assess the severity of the spinal deformity, he determined the angle of curvature. This method was later called the Cobb angle.
