John Roberts Reading

Reading John Roberts ( born November 1, 1826 in Somerton, Pennsylvania, † February 14, 1886 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. In the years 1869 and 1870 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Reading attended the common schools and then studied until 1847 at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia medicine. After qualifying as a doctor, he began to practice in this profession in Somerton. Later he graduated from the Hahnemann College, also in Philadelphia, where he studied homeopathy. He then worked in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1868 Reading was in the fifth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican Caleb Newbold Taylor took on 4 March 1869 that he had beaten in the election. Taylor put but against the election results a contradiction. As this was met, Reading was forced to cede to Taylor resigned from the Congress on April 13, 1870 again.

In 1870 Reading sought unsuccessfully to make his return to the Congress. After that, he is no longer politically have appeared. He died on February 14, 1886 in Philadelphia.
