John Seymour Lucas

John Seymour Lucas ( born December 21, 1849 in London, † 8 May 1923 ) was an English historical and portrait painter, as a respected victorianischer Costume.

Life

He was born the son of an artistic family in London and originally trained as a woodcarver. He focused very quickly on the portrait painting and entered first the St. Martin 's Lane Art School and later at the Royal Academy. Here he met his French wife and fellow artist Marie Cornelissen, whom he married in 1877. John Seymour Lucas made ​​his artistry on extensive study trips through Europe, particularly Holland and Spain, where he studied the Flemish and Spanish Masters. He began exhibiting in 1872, became an associate member of the Royal Academy in 1876 and a full member of the Royal Academy in 1898.
