John Stuart (actor)

John Stuart ( born July 18, 1898 in Edinburgh, Scotland, † October 17, 1979 in London, John Alfred Louden Croall actually ) was a Scottish actor and a popular leading man in British silent films in the 1920s.

Life

John Stuart made ​​his film debut in 1920. According silent film successes as Maurice Hindle Wakes Elveys (1927 ) also resulted in his first sound film, Victor Saville Kitty ( 1929) positive. In both films and many other late 1920s, Stuart played the leading role alongside Estelle Brody.

Already in the early days of British television John Stuart worked for the new medium. With advancing age, Stuart moved into character roles. His last film role played Stuart in the film Superman ( 1978); year of his death he was seen in one more episode of the British television series Accident. The actor has appeared in more than 180 film and television productions.

In 1930 he married fellow actress Muriel Angelus (The Great McGinty ), whom he had met in the same year at the filming of the romantic comedy No Exit; the marriage lasted for ten years and had no children.

John Stuart's final resting place is at the Brompton Cemetery in London.
