John Wilson, 2nd Baron Moran

Richard John McMoran Wilson, 2nd Baron Moran KCMG ( September 22, 1924 *, † February 14, 2014 in London) was a British politician, diplomat, soldier and peer.

Life and career

Wilson was born on 22 September 1924 as the son of Charles Wilson, 1st Baron Moran, and Dorothy Dufton. He served in the Royal Naval reserve of 1943 to 1945. Wilson served on HMS Belfast as an ordinary seaman. Later promoted to sub- lieutenant, he served on the destroyer HMS Oribi. In 1945, he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

In 1973, he wrote a biography of the British Prime Minister Henry Campbell - Bannerman. For this he was awarded the Costa Book Award. In the same year he became ambassador to Hungary and remained so until 1976. Then Wilson 's ambassador to Portugal was to 1981 and from 1981 to 1984 he was High Commissioner in Canada.

On April 12, 1977, he inherited the title of Baron Moran. 1992 to 1994 he was a board member, 1996-1997 Vice- President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. From 1988 to 1995 and again since 2000, he is President of the Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association.

1999 Wilson was one of the Hereditary Peers who kept her seat in the House of Lords after the House of Lords Act 1999. There he sat as a cross Bencher. Since 2006 he was deputy chairman of the Conservation and Wildlife Group.

Family

Since 1948 he was married to Shirley Rowntree Harris. They had two sons and a daughter.
