Johnny "Hammond" Smith

Johnny " Hammond " Smith ( born December 16, 1933, Louisville, Kentucky; † 4 June 1997) is an American jazz musician and composer.

In addition to Jimmy Smith and Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Robert, called Johnny Hammond Smith the third of the Schmidt- Orgler. The Hammond B3 organ is his instrument. He discovered it when he heard Wild Bill Davis for themselves. With it, his responsibilities included Nancy Wilson. After moving to New York City, he played with his own small formations in the clubs. But it was the contract with Prestige, published it as modernists on the New Jazz label, earned him some recognition. Nevertheless, his contribution to jazz history is significantly lower than that of his " namesake ", even if the emission of LPs is surprisingly extensive. Some of it is now also appeared on CDs. In 1960 he participated in Lem Winchester Album Another Opus.
