Johnny Kilbane

Johnny Kilbane ( born April 18, 1889 in Cleveland as John Patrick Kilbane, † May 31, 1957 ) was an American boxer.

Professional career

Rear Boxer Kilbane was a featherweight. He began his professional career in 1907 at the age of 18 years. On 24 October 1910 he boxed for the first time for the world championship at featherweight but lost the experienced Abe Attell over ten rounds on points.

On February 22, 1912, came to rematch. Kilbane hit Attell over a distance of twenty rounds on points and became world champion. In the following years he defended the title several times. In 1913, he punched it in a draw with Johnny Dundee. In 1917, he also tried his hand at lightweight, but had no chance against Benny Leonard and went in the third round KO.

After he no longer fought in 1923 with 34 two years he lost the title against hard-hitting Eugene Criqui by TKO in the sixth round.

Kilbanes tenure as World Champion (1912-1923) is the second longest after Joe Louis.

In 1995, Kilbane induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
