Johnny Pacheco

Johnny Pacheco ( born March 25, 1935 in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic ) is a musician (flute, saxophone, percussion), producer, bandleader, and especially one of the founders of the record label Fania.

He moved with his father, also a musician in the 1940s to New York, where he founded in 1963 with the lawyer Jerry Masucci, Fania, the distribution mainly Puerto Rican salsa. Like many other Fania artists as well ( Willie Colon, Ruben Blades ) it is politically engaged, for example in the fight against AIDS.
