Johnny Rae

Johnny Rae (actually John Anthony Pompeo, born August 11, 1934 in Saugus, Massachusetts) is an American drummer, percussionist and vibraphonist of modern jazz and Latin jazz.

Life and work

Johnny Rae 1952 professional musician, played 1953/54, with Herb Pomeroy, from 1955 to 1956 with George Shearing, Johnny Smith in 1956, Ralph Sharon 1957 at Cozy Cole 1958. In 1959 he became a member of the band of Herbie Mann, with which he visited Europe in 1960. In the 1960s, he was Big Band Bossa Nova involved in the big band production of Stan Getz, 1960 was published with the assistance of Bobby Jaspar and Steve Kuhn an album under his own name. He also worked as an accompanist for Anita O'Day and played with Cal Tjader. In the 1970s he took, inter alia, with Earl Hines, Art Van Damme and Barney Kessel plates.
