Herb Pomeroy

Irving Herbert Pomeroy III ( born April 15, 1930 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, † August 11, 2007 ) was an American jazz trumpeter and high school teachers.

Life

Pomeroy studied the Schillinger House in Boston, later Berklee College of Music. He appeared in the early 1950s with Charlie Parker, Lionel Hampton and Stan Kenton and played recordings under Serge Chaloff, with Charlie Mariano and as a band leader. From 1955 he taught forty-one years long at the Berklee School, next to twenty-two years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and also a number of years at the Lenox School of Jazz. Besides, he always managed several bands, which consisted of his disciples, and took on as a leader of big bands albums for the label roulette, United Artists and Shiah.

After the end of his teaching career, he focused more on his own musical creations. He appeared in various duo and quartet formations and collaborated on several albums, partly as a leader, with.
