Joliette
Joliette is a city in the same county Canadian Joliette and at the same time their capital. The city on the western shore of the St. Lawrence River in 2006 counted a total of 19,044 inhabitants and has an area of 22.81 km ².
History
Joliette was founded in 1823 by Barthélemy Joliette.
Traffic
Joliette is located between Quebec, the Maritimes and the Joliette (regional county municipality ). The Trans-Canada Highway runs from Québec coming to Joliette. The extending further north Route 40 leads to Trois -Rivières. Joliette is connected to the railway network of VIA Rail Canada.
Attractions
- The Catholic Church of Saint -Charles- Borromeé in the town center was built between 1904 and 1906. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Joliette.
- The Musée d'art de Joliette " MAJ " has a collection of more than 9000 works of art.
Twinning
Since 1985, the French town of Brive -la -Gaillarde is in Limousin twin city of Joliette.
