Jon Belaustegui

Ion Belaustegui Ruano ( born March 19, 1979 in San Sebastian, Spain ) is a Spanish handball player. He is 1.95 m tall and weighs 95 kg.

Belaustegui, who played for the Spanish club SDC San Antonio ( number 9 ) and for the Spanish national team ( back number 8) runs, loves playing in the left back; but in the past he often played in the right back, to get more applications.

Ion Belaustegui played his first league game in the Spanish league ASOBAL for FC Barcelona. With the Catalans won it in 1997 and 1998, the Spanish Cup, Copa del Rey de Balonmano, the Spanish Super Cup, the EHF Champions League and the Club Championship and 1999, the Spanish Cup and the EHF Champions League, but was the most of the time only reserve players. 1999, therefore, he went to BM Valladolid, remained there but unsuccessfully and moved in 2001 to local rivals Ademar León. In 2003 he went to the German handball Bundesliga HSV Hamburg. Here he won after all the DHB Supercup, but returned back to Spain in 2005 and hired in BM Ciudad Real, where he led the 2006 Copa ASOBAL, the EHF Champions League and the Club Championship and in 2007 the Spanish Cup, Copa ASOBAL and association Championships won. In Ciudad Real, he was at the end but only a third choice, so he along with his teammates Julio Fis settled in the summer of 2007 for a year to borrow CB Ciudad de Logroño. In the 2009/2010 season he played at SDC San Antonio.

Ion Belaustegui has been disputed over 60 internationals for the Spanish national team. He won the silver medal at the European Handball Championship 2006. During the Handball World Cup in Germany in 2007, he retired with Spain in the quarter- final against Germany and occupied at the end of a disappointing 7th place. In the 2008 Olympics he won the bronze medal.
