Jon Lilletun

Jon Lilletun ( born October 23, 1945 in Vossestrand, † 21 August 2006) was a Norwegian politician and Minister of the Christian People's Party.

Education and work

The son of a religious small farmers and village postman was only able to complete the nine-year elementary school because of the poverty of the parents. Later he was a trainee at a merchant and attended various trade schools. The early seventies, he opened himself a retail store, for which he had but to declare bankruptcy within a few years. Because booking manipulations he was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 45 days.

From 1975 to 1989 he was then youth workers in the community Vennesla. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 1983. During this time he also converted from the Pentecostal church to " Church of Norway ".

Member of the Storting

From 1981 to 1985 he acted as deputy mayor of the constituency Vest -Agder in the Storting.

From 1989 until his death he was then a Member of the Storting. However, took over with his incipient cancer from spring 2005 already the deputy deputy Sigmund Kroslid partially his duties.

During his deputies time he was a member of various committees and among other things, 1993-1997 Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Research and Church Affairs. In addition to his membership of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, he was also a member of the Norwegian delegation for relations with the European Parliament and NATO.

Jon Lilletun, who also was from 1993 to 1997 Chairman of the Group of the Christian Democratic Party, was most recently Vice President since 2005 of the [ [ Lagting ] ].

Member of the Government

1997 he was appointed the then Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik in his cabinet. He was then to 2000, Minister of Education, Research and Church Affairs. During his tenure, among others, the Norwegian Centre for Holocaust Studies and Religious Minorities was established.
