Jon Storm-Mathisen

Jon Storm- Mathisen ( born January 16, 1941 in Oslo) is a Norwegian neuroscientist. He is an emeritus professor of medicine at the Department of Anatomy at the Medical Faculty of the University of Oslo. Storm- Mathisen was previously Deputy Director of the Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience. He went in 2011 into retirement.

He received the Anders Jahres Medical Prize in 2006 for his pioneering research on neurotransmitters in the brain. The reason for the award was explained that Jon Storm- Mathisen has shown that glutamate neurons communicate through the use of the amino acid as a neurotransmitter in the brain. This was a surprising new finding. He also received the University of Oslo Research Award in 2004 on the grounds that he is fundamentally responsible for the current positive environment in neurobiology. He is one of the most quoted Norwegian researchers.
