Jon Sudbø

Jon Sudbø ( May 3, 1961) is a former Norwegian dentist, doctor and medical researcher at the Radium Hospital in Oslo.

Life

He received a doctorate in med (Norwegian Promotion corresponds approximately Habilitation ) in 2001 and worked as a senior physician and associate professor ( førsteamanuensis ) at the University of Oslo active.

In January 2006 Jon Sudbø admitted 900 patients data of oral cancer patients fictitious, and processes them into a study and to have them published in the prestigious journal The Lancet, along with 13 co-authors. The message of this forgery was that the risk for oral cancer in smokers could be reduced to half supposedly when occupying a long time paracetamol. Furthermore, it has been proven to have falsified pictures for a publication in the New England Journal of Medicine. According to press reports of 25 January 2006, he also admitted falsifying a publication in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Subsequently, all 38 published by him in the past eight years, studies have been subjected to an audit. The investigation by an independent committee in June 2006 revealed that even most of his other research article is worthless by manipulated data.

Sudbø came back immediately after the announcement of the Commission's report of his academic offices. In November 2006, his licenses were revoked as a doctor and dentist, in December 2006, it acquired all academic degrees were also withdrawn.

Before the forgeries were discovered, Jon Sudbø had 70 million Norwegian crowns obtained ( about 8.75 million euros ) in research funding for his oral cancer examinations by the U.S. NCI research authority.
